Opening Session Performance

At the conference opening session, we will enjoy a performance by Human Triptych Collective, a recently-formed Charlotte-based arts collective that features live music, live dance, and live visualizations. The group debuted with "Dancing on the Dark Side" in 2011 and is currently developing "Telepresence: A Performative Meditation on Modern Technology". The group has received a Special Projects Grant from the Arts and Science Council to develop Telepresence, and will perform the work in April in Charlotte's NoDa Arts District. Today's performance contains excerpts from Telepresence.

Conference Keynote Address
Catherine Anderson, this year's keynote speaker, will talk about music therapy from her perspective as an award-winning teacher, successful lawyer, and published author of mystery novels. As a professor of Business at Queens University, she teaches courses in the legal and ethical environment of business, as well as a popular course in developing the creative process. Expect a fascinating look at creativity and how we might use it to inspire and drive us in our music therapy endeavors. Read MORE...

Thursday Evening Drum Circle at Queens

The Annual Awards Banquet Luncheon
During the annual Awards Luncheon, regional members will be recognized for their outstanding contributions to regional music therapy! During the meal, enjoy the wonderful sounds of Bob and Tanja, who bring us new arrangements for guitar and cello in addition to their own original compositions.

Town Hall Meeting
A major topic up for discussion at this year's Town Hall is the proposal from the AMTA Education and Training Advisory Board (ETAB) to make the Master's degree the entry level for music therapy practice. Members of the ETAB will be on hand to answer questions and receive comments on this proposal. AMTA members are invited to read the ETAB proposals and a response in preparation for the discussion to take place at the Town Hall meeting.

Friday evening is yours for exploring the many attractions at venues that Charlotte has to offer. The Hospitality Committee has prepared an extensive listing of things to do in Charlotte, listing attractions, events, restaurants, and shopping. The conference hotel will provide complimentary shuttle service to and from restaurants and nightlife venues in the Uptown Charlotte area.

Conference Closing Session!
Kojo Bey is director and lead drummer for Sounds of Afrika, an African drumming and dance ensemble that teaches and preserves African culture through performances, classes and workshops. Kojo and members of his group will perform and then include the audience in a serious and spirited drum circle. Plan on being a part of this exciting and dramatic end to the 2012 conference!
